The Vines
Isolated Hill vines attain their distinctive quality from the inverted soils caused by historic earthquakes that left basalt soil atop of calcareous limestone clays. Situated in Waiau, North Canterbury the calcium clay and silt loams create a nutrient rich soil similar to that of Burgundy France, the original home of Pinot Noir.
The Wines
Sitting beneath the working limestone quarry these wines are an expression of the many characters from its site. The Limestone promotes mineral flavours and chalky tannin, whilst the clay promotes berry fruit aromas, a mid palate richness and fresh acid backbone.
